The Oak Park Area Arts Council Presents
Local Artist’s Work on Display at Oak Park Village Hall

The Oak Park Area Arts Council is proud to present an exhibit of paintings by Sarah Koten during the months of May and June 2008 at Oak Park Village Hall, 123 Madison Street in Oak Park.

“My work is informed and inspired by nature,” says Sarah.  “There is no other place where color, form and pattern are so exquisitely expressed.  The cycle of life, as reflected in the seasons, has so many permutations that the subject matter fascinates me and is infinitely challenging.”

“Technically, I draw from my experience as a textile designer in New York City.  There is a quality of luxuriousness and sensuousness with the texture of fabric that I try to replicate in my work.  Fabric printing processes such as stencil, dye and discharge, batik and resist methods influence the way I apply paint to a canvas.  I use color to reflect the drama and vibrancy of what I see in the world around me.”

“By contrasting the images with patterns derived from the forms themselves, I try to create a harmony similar to that which is found in the natural world.  It is important to me to record the glory of nature and to preserve in my art this extraordinary gift for those who are willing to see it.”
